Care & Maintenance
Spanish Cedar
Although the Spanish Cedar chair will last a long time untreated, some small yearly maintenance will help ensure that your chair will withstand a lifetime of enjoyment. Sealing the feet will prevent water from wicking up into the wood. Penofin, Australian timber oil, or Tung oil are recommended. Your local hardware or home improvement store can direct you to the product you need.

In addition to sealing the bottom of the legs, we recommend storing your chair during the off-season months. Before storing, gently tighten any loose hardware and wash your chair down with soap and water. If there is any mildew, you may want to apply a bleach solution to the effected areas. And lastly, reapply the same product you used to seal the feet. Doing these small steps will protect your Costa Rican Chair and in time the Spanish Cedar will turn a beautiful silver gray.

Teak
As with our Spanish Cedar chair the Teak chair will need to have bottom of the feet sealed to prevent water from wicking into the wood. The chair will weather to a beautiful gray hue. Some type of oil such as teak oil will prolong the life of any wood but it will not prevent the wood from turning gray.

There are methods of restoring the color as well as other sealing applications on the market however; we do not make any specific recommendations. In addition to sealing the bottom of the legs, we recommend storing your chair during the off-season months. Before storing, gently tighten any loose hardware and wash your chair down with soap and water.

The factory-finished chair has been treated with teak oil.
